Facelifted Mk1 (or Mk2 depending on how you name it) Fiesta.
In trivia news this was the first model available as an automatic. It used (in small numbers) a CVT which Ford shared with Fiat. It didn’t go well for either maker.
It was also the first Fiesta to get the option of a five speed manual and a diesel (yes, you could get both, the diesels were five speed only).
Power steering had to wait a while longer.

Lets just call it a 2nd gen model to stop the arguments!
There’s one around here I see all the time, a late F reg (so 88/89) 1.4 Ghia in a lovely shade of metallic dark red, is mint and driven by someone who doesn’t look any older than 30.

Tom Tjaarda’s design for the original Fiesta was elegant, crisp and distinctive. And then Ford did this to it.
I wonder if the person responsible for the 1983 Fiesta facelift was the same one who totally destroyed the charm of Uwe Bahnsen’s Mk 4 Escort?
